RAÚL IONUT AND IVAN ORTEGA, TWO OF THE BIG CHALLENGE WINNERS

Raúl and Iván - great contestants
This morning we took a photo of these two students, who couldn't come to pick up their prizes last Thursday. It's not the first time they do great in this English competition. Raúl, who currently studies 3ºESO, already got first position in 1ºESO and scored second in 2ºESO; this year he has been first of his level again! "I'd love to do that myself in the future," says Iván, who exactly like Raúl was first in 1ºESO and second in 2ºESO, his present year. Will he be able to be the first one next year when he studies 3ºESO? He will try to do so, but he will have other good competitors, such as Eloy, this year's winner, Judith -who got the third position- or who knows, maybe someone else will surprise us all and be the best in the whole province!

LINGUISTIC EXCHANGE BETWEEN GOSLAR AND YEPES

From the19th to 24th of May, 17 of our students were involved in a linguistic and cultural exchange with 16 students from Goslar (Germany). It was quite an intense experience, which encouraged them to use English as a vehicle of communication.
During this week, apart from spending time at home with the family, all the students took part in a variety of activities. For example, they went on some excursions together (Toledo, Cantera Lafarge, Aranjuez), and the German students could also enjoy one day in Madrid, visiting El Prado and an exhibition of Pixar Productions.

BERTIE: The play was FUNtastic!

We all had a great time last Monday at Yepes' Cultural Centre. Both students and teachers who saw the play share the opinion that it was fun.

THE 2014 EDITION OF THE BIG CHALLENGE

"What number should you ring to call an ambulance if you are in London?" "How many people live in London?" "Where does the largest European ethnic group in the US come from?" "How old is the Stonehenge?"
If you have taken part in this year's edition of The Big Challenge you have probably answered questions similar to these ones and some others which have not been so difficult.
Next Monday, 2nd of June, you will know your specific position in the competition. Will you be one of the winners? You will find out very soon. Check the results in the official website and see how well you scored  at school, province and national levels.
Thank you for participating. Do not forget that even if you do not get one of the best marks, this has been a good experience that has helped you to practise English.

Good luck to you all!  :)

MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE: Messages and videos of the project

Have a look at this couple of videos that the teacher took in class while the students of 2ºESO A-C were working on an English project. They were writing some colourful SOS messages from a desert island:

And here you can see some of the messages that these students wrote. They did an excellent work, and showed that they are really creative!

CREARTE THEATRE COMPANY IN IES CARPETANIA

Many students are working on the project GREEN CARPETANIA HIGHSCHOOL. The last meeting was yesterday, Tuesday, Feb 25 during the break time (from 11:10 to 11:40am). That day, actors from scene 1 got some pieces of paper with their texts and practised most part of this scene together. The whole play has a total of three scenes, where about 30 students will participate (apart from some other students who will dance to a choreography of the famous song New York, New York). We will be in contact with a variety of languages and cultures, and some of our students will be in charge of transmitting them to us: Bulgarian, Moroccan, Romanian, English, French, and Spanish, of course. We are going to learn a lot about these countries thanks to the students who have volunteered to take part in this project. At the same time, we are going to have fun. Doing some acting will help us relax from school! :) ...................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................................................... Next Tuesday we have the Carnival holiday ("Semana Blanca"), so we will probably continue our project on the next Thursday, March 6, at breaktime, in Room 9. See you all there, and thank you for your participation. Have fun on your Carnival Holiday!

GREEN CARPETANIA HIGHSCHOOL

Today we had a meeting during the school-break and decided about most of the actors and actresses that will take part in this theatre project. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR INTEREST! Together we will travel to New York! And we will also learn a lot about Science and the importance of taking care of our planet Earth. All this and much more we will be sharing every Tuesday, and don't forget to come with a HUGE SMILE and SENSE OF HUMOUR!
